Shuswap History – Mount Ida Mines – The history of mining on Mount Ida dates back to the late 1800’s and early 1900’s when high grade silver boulders were discovered a short distance south of Salmon Arm.

Ellison Provincial Park Revisited – There is something special about this park and its natural features. With the right lighting, the red beach sands and the turquoise water, simply look exotic. The park is named for Price Ellison (1852–1932), who emigrated to British Columbia in 1876 from Manchester, settling in this area and engaging in stock raising and wheat growing.

Albas The Shuswap’s Most Powerful Waterfalls – Anyone who likes waterfalls should definitely visit Albas. The falls are located on Seymour Arm of Shuswap Lake, accessible via logging road from St. Ives in the North Shuswap. The area also features a managed marine park camping site. A moderately steep loop trail follows along the raging waters of Celista Creek through a series of five waterfalls.

Pictographs & Petroglyphs of the Shuswap, Kootenay & Vancouver Island BC – An account of visits to various sites in British Columbia’s Shuswap, Kootenay and Vancouver Island regions. In the Shuswap region, many of the pictograph sites are in remarkable good condition and often found on large rock walls above large bodies of water.

Dinner Rock, Powell River BC & MV Gulf Stream Shipwreck – A quiet, beautiful campsite is perched above Malaspina Strait near Dinner Rock Island, between Powell River and Lund, BC. Dinner Rock was the site of a a tragic accident on the night of October 11, 1947. The MV Gulf Stream, a 145-foot passenger vessel sank there in stormy weather.

Margaret Falls at Herald Provincial Park BC – Situated in Herald Provincial Park, Margaret Falls is a popular destination for waterfall lovers.The park is a popular destination camp ground and day-use area with a beautiful beach and forested uplands. Swimming, fishing and bird-watching are popular activities, as is the self-guided nature walk to Margaret Falls.

Cool Rock Formations of Western Canada – Cool Rock Formations of Western Canada are a great attraction to photographers because they offer cool shapes and textures. Anyone who is particularly interested in abstract photography may find himself in heaven when coming upon such geological feature.

British Columbia Driftwood Photography – Driftwood is often found on ocean beaches and along rivers and lakes. It is very interesting to photograph because sometimes it features bizarre textures and shapes that look like sculptures or creatures.

Canoe Beach, British Columbia – Winter Scenery – Canoe Beach is the only public beach in the immediate Salmon Arm area and draws significant local tourist traffic in summer months. Winter days can be splendid at Canoe Beach as the lake is usually calm and wildlife is often observed on or near the water.

St. Ives Winter Photo Shoot @ Shuswap Lake BC – A photo shoot at small North Shuswap community by the name of St. Ives on Shuswap Lake invites for great image opportunities in summer and winter. The area is a great stepping stone for endless adventures and explorations to remote areas on Shuswap Lake.

Salmon Arm Bay Pelicans – American White Pelicans are an exciting sight in the Shuswap. Their presence however is not as rare as commonly believed and widely reported by local press. Salmon Arm residents near the bay have spotted the birds almost annually for decades. Vernon residents living near Okanagan Lake share the observations. There have been multiple reports of the birds visiting up and down the Okanagan and Shuswap.

2021 White Rock Lake Wildfire – Caused by lightning in an extreme drought year, the fire began July 13, 2021. Left unprioritized by the wildfire service for several days it spread to a total of 83,047 hectares and resulted in the destruction over 800 homes.

Shuswap Falls BC @ Historic Wilsey Dam – Update – a paradise for anyone who loves waterfalls and white waters raging through rugged canyons. Wilsey Dam recreational area features a high balcony type platform right above the spillway and a rocky bluff view point further down river.

2021 Becker Lake Wildfire Vernon, BC – As extreme drought conditions continue throughout the province of British Columbia, residents in the Okanagan grow more concerned about new wildfires every day. After a grass fire at a slope above Kalamalka Lake on the previous day and the following night, smoke was spotted a few miles west of Becker Lake.

Sicamous Creek Fatal Falls, BC – Three house-sized boulders in a narrow gorge divide Sicamous Creek into two cascading waterfalls. A short, well developed and marked trail leads to a viewing area from which the stunning scenery of the falling water can be enjoyed.

Historic Dun-Waters Farm & Short’s Creek Waterfall, Fintry BC – Historic Dun-Waters Farm at Short’s Creek and waterfall in Fintry BC, is an interesting place to visit. Fintry’s octagonal dairy barn is believed to be the last standing eight-sided barn in BC and one of only a few in Canada.

Brenda Falls at Sugar Lake Dam, BC – A few kilometers south of Sugar Lake in Bc is the location of Brenda Falls. In 1942, BC Hydro constructed a dam to create storage and increase the power generating potential at Wilsey Dam (Shuswap Falls)

Shuswap Falls BC @ Historic Wilsey Dam – Shuswap Falls near Lumby in British Columbia facilitates BC Hydro’s Wilsey Dam which features multiple waterfalls year round. A prominent viewing platform high above the dam’s spill channel provides spectacular views to the frothing waters below.

Wild Pacific Trail BC, Vancouver Island – Vast beaches near Ucluelet and in Pacific Rim National Park and offer endless photo opportunities. Rock Bluffs at the northern portion of the trail features elevated observation spots on the rugged coastline. In spring, the blow spouts of migrating whales can be seen on the ocean.

Bighorn Sheep of the South Okanagan BC – Bighorn Sheep of the Okanagan, also known as California Bighorn Sheep are found all over the valley’s lower slopes. Just a few feet of a highway’s shoulder, the animals are often spotted grazing. Not shy whatsoever they make for an easy model to photograph
